I wanted to ink it and possibly add some color, but I hurt my hand and had to settle for this. I really should draw animals more often!
I submitted a 45 page comic a couple of months ago, so hopefully I'll hear something back soon!

<![CDATA[Logos]]>Fri, 14 Dec 2012 22:43:05 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/logos
A French friend commissioned me to create a logo for her CIM class. They had some rough sketches already done, so my job was fairly straightforward. Choosing the right font was more time-consuming than creating the logo itself, ha ha. The blue was originally flat, so I added a radial gradient to add some volume, as well as reinforce the "CIM."
This was another design of theirs. I'm glad they chose the other one since this made me think of Earth as a tilted Saturn. The blue behind the text was my idea so that it had some weight, but I did one without it for comparison's sake.

It was a nice change of pace to work on something like this, especially since it will actually be used at her university! I'll post a link once it's up on their site and official.

<![CDATA[More Friend Sketches]]>Tue, 25 Sep 2012 19:00:46 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/more-friend-sketches
This is my Icelandic friend as Marvel's Dagger, of Cloak and Dagger. She had mentioned how pretty the northern lights were, so I used some photo reference of Iceland to paint the background. She's using this as her Facebook cover photo. Coincidentally enough, the dagger points right at her profile picture, ha ha ha. Happy accidents.
My French friend that I nicknamed "Sarapii."
And finally, my friend Akane as Catwoman. The Dark Knight Rises was awesome, and I loved Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Selina Kyle.

<![CDATA[Friend sketches]]>Sat, 22 Sep 2012 17:04:54 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/friend-sketchesSome of my friends requested sketches of them and I finally got around to them now that my portfolio is done:
It's always fun working on likenesses since I don't feel like they're an area I'm strong in.

<![CDATA[Sweet Dreams]]>Thu, 09 Aug 2012 04:26:09 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/sweet-dreamsThese are the characters from a story I'm boarding for my portfolio. I never really drew in Photoshop until this project. Most of the time, I used it to color illustrations that I had penciled and inked traditionally. Luckily I got used to it fairly quickly since I did have experience using a Wacom.

I'll post the boards once everything's done and sent off.
I exaggerated more than I usually do, which was fun, so I'll have to do it far more often. Click "read more" to see the rest of the sketches!
Sarah, Chase's teenage sister. She was partially based on a friend of mine.
Mom. She doesn't have any broad poses like some of these, but it's good to explore them anyway and get used to her shapes.
Chase. I didn't like his initial hairstyle, so I changed it in the bottom third.
I had a lot of fun drawing these poses. I have many young cousins whose energy served as inspiration.
Meriweather. It took a while to come up with a strange and scary design for him. I knew I had it when all of my friends were creeped out by his small, black eyes and weird hair.
He was tall and thin at first, but that didn't fit. I thought it would be more unsettling to see this hulking clown prance around lithely.

<![CDATA[Leona Lewis]]>Tue, 07 Aug 2012 15:59:16 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/leona-lewisAbout two weeks ago, I found out that British singer Leona Lewis chose my illustration of her to use as her Twitter profile picture! I was quite surprised. Check it out!

<![CDATA[Uchiha kunoichi]]>Mon, 16 Jul 2012 20:42:22 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/uchiha-kunoichiI felt like drawing something Naruto-related before bed and this is what I came up with. The Sharingan is pretty awesome.

<![CDATA[Portrait Present]]>Thu, 17 May 2012 18:39:56 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/portrait-presentA friend of mine asked if I had time to draw something for a friend of his so that he could give it to her this weekend at her graduation. Although likenesses are an area I need more work in, I was happy to help out!

He said it was amazing and relayed to me that she loved it as well. What a relief! It can be a roll of the dice when you're drawing someone, ha ha ha. I thought it looked nice in the frame he put it in.

<![CDATA[A couple of sketches]]>Sun, 13 Nov 2011 04:10:06 GMThttp://rakugakid.com/sketch-blog/a-couple-of-sketchesIt's been forever yet again. Poor art blog. I spent the past several weeks working on a comic, so that ate up all of my time. I'll be posting more things in the near future, and more regularly.
